US military receive free passes to parks

US military receive free passes to parksMilitary personnel who move near a park may be able to enjoy the national parks for free all the time.  Even those who do not move close to a national park will still be able to enter every national park free of charge.  The change comes from the park service and Interior Department.  The department stated that it wishes to reward the service members and their families.  There will be an annual pass given to military members free of charge.  This will begin on Armed Forces Day.  The cost of the annual pass is usually around $80 for accessing the 2,000 national parks, public lands and wildlife refuges.

Any military moving to Virginia will definitely be able to take advantage of the annual pass.  The Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown will host a ceremony not only to recognize the soldiers, but also as a way to introduce the new park access military personnel will gain.  There will be a small revenue loss because of the service members no longer paying for access.  The passes will allow single private vehicles with passengers to enter the park.  It will cover the owner and three adults in the car where there are fees charged per person.

Any military moving close to a park can certainly enjoy the annual pass more often than those who are not near the parks.  It is a nice thing that is happening for the active military, since the parks can provide a lot of family memories.
