Is a Dorm Right for You?
It’s college time and many students are wondering if the college dorm is the right choice for them. Whether a student should move into the dorms or live off campus will depend entirely on them and their particular situation. But, here are some things to consider when making that choice:
Moving into an apartment rather than the dorm may actually eat into the time otherwise spent on the class workload. When you live in the dorm, there really isn’t a need to do too much grocery shopping or cooking. In an apartment, you really do need to think about that. However, the food plan in the dorms could get a little boring.
Cost is definitely something to think about when deciding whether you should move into a dorm or an off-campus apartment. In some cases, living in the dorms can be more expensive, depending on the city. Before you decide, weigh up your options. There are so many factors to consider. Perhaps the rent is cheaper but do you have the money to spend on furniture and other household goods?
There’s no doubt about it, living in the dorm can be convenient; after all you are right there on campus. You don’t have to worry about parking, though it might be something to consider if you want a car on campus. Some colleges don’t allow those living in dorms to have a car.
Whether or not you should move to the dorm also depends on your personality. If you want peace and quiet, an apartment might be better for you. If you want to meet a variety of new people, the dorm might be your best bet.
