Finding That First Job
So you’ve graduated college and instead of moving home to Mom and Dad, you want to live in your own place. In order to be able to afford your own home (orApartment), chances are you will need a job. It’s time to kiss the dorms good-bye and relocate to your first real place. So, how do you go about finding that first job now that you’re a college grad?
You can always start out with traditional newspapers and online classified job sites, but don’t you think a thousand other college grads just like you are doing that, too? If you are ready to move ahead with your life and get a job, you’re going to have to get motivated. Here are some tips and tricks to point you in the right direction.
Get a Referral
Did you know that some of the best jobs aren’t even advertised? Many businesses try to select from their current employees before finding someone new. So, take a look at who you know – approach anyone who might have an opening in his or her company. You never know; really, you never know! This really works!
Work for Free
While you won’t be able to afford living on your own without getting paid, you might be able to land a killer job by working for free for a short period of time. If you go this route, we suggest moving in with a relative where you can save on rent for the duration.
Check Your School
If you just graduated, you may not want to go back to school, but it really can be a great resource for job hunters like you. Talk to your university and see if they offer job placement assistance or job-hunting resources for their graduates. They may even have a database of job openings for their alumni.
