Warner Bros appears to have indirectly confirmed that there is going to be a solo movie for comic book hero Aquaman and that the movie is expected to be released in cinemas in 2016. MovieWeb claims that Warner Bros has registered domain URLs for four DC comic book movies: Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam and Justice League.
MovieWeb also claims that all the movies ‒ bar Aquaman ‒ were originally reported three months ago in June, together with their expected release dates, when Warner Bros made the announcement that it planned to release six more DC comic book movies between 2016 and 2018; however, Warner Bros did not give any indication of the titles. MovieWeb first claimed that Justice League would receive a 2017 release date, but this has since been put back to 2018.
Shazam, which is expected to star Dwayne Johnson in the title role, is now anticipated for a 2016 release, with Wonder Woman penciled in for 2017. Aquaman was not on the list of planned release dates at first, but the site is now claiming that it could hit cinemas as early as 2016.
Actor Jason Momoa was linked to the title role of Aquaman, but has since denied this. Screenwriters Kurt Johnstad and Will Beall have been separately hired to write a script for the film to allow Warner Bros to keep the film on track for its release date and to choose the best script.
