When you are moving office, you will naturally have a checklist that guides you through the move; however, as you draw to the end of the process, you need to go over a few things to make sure that everything has been completed.

There are a few questions you should ask your staff so that they can confirm some essential points of moving office. Get them to check that all the desks have been emptied and that all the filing cabinets have also been emptied. You should also make sure that the desk drawers are locked to help to reduce the possibility of damage while they are being moved from one place to another.

When you are carrying out a commercial relocation, do not forget the walls. Most offices have artwork or notice boards and you would not believe how easy it is to overlook these. Appoint a staff member to take these items down and pack them as part of the moving process.

You should make sure that anything that is not being taken with you as part of the commercial relocation has a ‘do not move’ sticker on it. Go round the building and make sure that these stickers are in place; otherwise, you might end up taking things away that you no longer want or that belong to the landlord.

Finally, make sure that you collect every set of office keys and that these are passed on to the landlord or the new owner.
