Relocation – making lists

Relocation – making lists

You might think that people who make lists all the time are a little obsessive, but there are times when this is essential. Someone who makes lists is organized, and if you have ever completed a move before then you will know that being organized is essential if you want to prevent the move sending you crazy.

Writing everything down is a must. The first step is to decide upon the record-keeping system that you want to use. Are you going to number your boxes, color-code them or organize them by room? The format you use is not important, as long as you use one, and you will have a good idea of what is in each box simply by referring to your list.

Make lists for every step of the moving process. Who do you want to inform about the move? There should be a list of people you want to send change of address cards to, such as family and friends, and you also need a list of suppliers that will need to be informed. Examples are your utility companies and insurance companies, as these accounts will need to be either closed or moved. You should also think about things such as magazine subscriptions.

Another important list is the materials you are going to need to complete your packing. From boxes to tape, you should make sure that you have everything you need and that you have plenty of it. Speak to your moving company about essential supplies.
