There are a number of strategies that can be useful when you are moving your company from one building to another; for example, a large company is often better off handling the move department by department rather than as a whole.
Make sure that each department has separate boxes when the office is packed up for the move, as the IT department will not be happy if it finds that its possessions are in with the office paraphernalia of the sales department. Labeling is essential here. There will always be one person who thinks they are helping the process by simply placing things in the nearest box, no matter who it belongs to, leading to confusion and chaos when it comes to unpacking.
You should also make sure that the desks are labeled with the name of the employee so that everyone knows which desk belongs to them at the other end. Computer equipment and other office items should also have the employee’s name on them so that they end up in the right place at the other end. This also makes it easier for the moving company.
Pack as much paperwork and as many files as you can as far in advance of the moving day as possible to get them out of the way. Commercial relocation is much easier when much of the clutter is already out of the way. This also allows you to get everything labeled carefully and correctly to make unpacking at the other end much easier.
