Packing books for moving

Packing books for moving

Perhaps you are going to be moving very soon and you are wondering what is the best way to go about packing your books in order to make sure that they get to your new property safe and sound.  There are a number of supplies that you will need to pack books properly before you move.  I recommend acquiring several boxes that are small or medium sized, packing tape, a marker pen, packing paper or bubble wrap, craft paper, and a pair of scissors.

I think it is a good idea to sort your books out before you actually start packing for your relocation.  The best way is to build piles of books based on both their size and their shape.  It is far better to pack together in the same box books that are of a similar size in order to prevent them from getting damaged.  If you are intending to store your books for what will be quite a considerable period of time – rather than immediately unpacking them in your new abode – then I would say that you need to wrap each one in acid-free paper.  This is a proven method to prevent them from becoming discolored.

Once you have your books in neatly ordered piles, do a check of the boxes you intend to put them in to make certain that they are not moldy, discolored or damp.  You should also make certain that the boxes are actually strong enough to be able to carry your books.
