Moving tools for military families

Moving tools for military families

Leaders at the Department of Defense want families to be aware that there are resources that are designed to assist.  The next generation of the Department of Defense’s Military Homefront tools is Plan My Move, which aims to provide an integrated e-moving solution.

Making a move to an entirely new community can be a difficult experience for service members and their families.  Plan My Move aims to assist with easing this burden, putting service members and their families directly in contact with people who are able to help with every step of the journey from the home and community that they currently reside in to the one that they will soon be a part of.

Using the new application, the service member or family member enters their current location and then their new location and the date on which the relocation is expected to take place.  Plan My Move will then be able to instantaneously generate installation overviews, valuable checklists for travel and arrival, a three-month calendar for point planning, and important family program information and points of contact.

The tool is intended to help service members and their family members step by step throughout the whole moving experience.  While the great majority of military moving tends to take place during the summertime, it is never too early to begin a plan.  Other Plan My Move features include information about relocation with a family member who has special needs and decision tools such as the best communities to live in and affordable housing.
