If you are planning an international move, you need plenty of time to prepare; in fact, you should be working on this several months in advance of your move.
The first thing you should do is some research, as you need to know all about the country and area you are moving to. If you are moving somewhere with a completely different culture then your research will be even more beneficial, as you will understand something of the local customs before you get there.
It is also a good idea to learn a little of the language. When you are moving abroad it is a good idea to be able to hold at least a basic conversation with the locals – you cannot expect everybody to speak your language. If you are moving for work, ask your employer about language training.
You may not be able to take all your possessions with you when you are planning an international relocation; therefore, you really do need to start sorting things out as soon as possible. Work out what you want to take, what you want to get rid of and how you are going to store the possessions you are leaving behind.
You may be lucky enough to have a friend or relative with spare space in a garage or attic, or it may be that you need to arrange some kind of formal storage. Once you know what you are taking with you, it will be easy to get a quote from your chosen moving company.
