When it comes to placing your items in the storage facility that you have rented, you need to plan how you are going to go about the process and not just throw everything in any old way. The first thing you need to consider is how often you are going to need access to certain items and make sure that the items you are most likely to require access to are packed last and are thus closest to the entrance and easy to find.
If the storage facility has been rented by a company for business purposes and you are a representative accessing the stored material on a frequent basis, it is a very good idea to leave some moving and walking space within your facility in order to make finding this material easier. It is also a good idea to leave a small space all the way round the facility’s perimeter to help air circulation.
All the space that is available in the storage facility should be made use of, including the height. Lighter boxes should be stacked on top of heavier boxes, and cartons should never be over-filled to avoid them becoming too heavy to move.
Cartons should be labeled with numbers, with a list retained by you showing what contents these numbers correspond to. The manager of the storage company may even be willing to keep a copy of the list on file for you. Avoid labeling the boxes with their actual content for security reasons.
