When you are moving you will find that there is one area of your home that is going to be very useful to you – your garage. For this reason it is recommended that sort out the garage first when you are planning your house move, as this will give you plenty of clear space to work with.
You can then use this space to store the boxes from your house after you have packed them; otherwise, you are likely to be tripping over these boxes for several weeks in the lead up to the house move itself. By having a space where the boxes can be stored out of the way you can also work much more easily as you pack. Additionally, this could be a money saving option if you are moving locally and paying by the hour. Having all the boxes a location close to the truck will save time/money.
When you reach your new home consider using the garage to store all the boxes you do not want to unpack immediately. Your moving company can put these boxes in the garage for you and you won’t to be falling over them when you are trying to arrange your furniture.
We know that not everybody is lucky enough to have a garage and there is no guarantee that you will have one at both your old home and your new home. If this is the case, give some thought to which area of the house you can use. You may have a spare room or a study that you can commandeer for a few weeks while you are getting everything sorted.
