Getting ready to move

Moving takes a great deal of both time and energy, but by being organized in advance you can save a good deal of work and stress.  There are a few basic tips you can follow in order to make the whole process run more smoothly.

Once you know that you are definitely going to move, you need to immediately start preparing for it.  One way to do this is by putting garbage bags in every room and beginning the process of throwing away everything that you do not intend to take with you to your new home.  Force yourself to abandon sentimentality in most cases, and make an exception only in a few rare instances. If you are intending to pack your belongings on your own then you should put one box in every room and start packing all the items that you are unlikely to need until after the relocation has been completed.  Once each box has been filled you can then move it to an area that has been specially designated for just this purpose; never forget that each box should be marked to identify its contents.

If you are moving to a new area then it is a good idea to begin getting used to the new neighborhood prior to the relocation.  Use the internet to search out basic retail outlets such as supermarkets, pharmacies and video shops, and use online maps to check their location.
