Emma Watson is a university graduate. The 24-year-old British actress, who shot to fame when she was just ten years old in the first Harry Potter movie, has graduated from Brown University in the United States with a degree in English Literature after five years of study.
Watson began her studies back in 2009, with the degree taking an additional year to the norm because of her movie commitments. These commitments included the final two films of the Harry Potter series, which came to an end three years ago. 2009 was also the year in which the young star was named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the decade’s highest-grossing female star; by the time Watson turned 18, she was worth $40 million.
Following the end of the Harry Potter franchise, Watson has continued to act alongside her studies, starring in a number of diverse roles in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, This is the End and the recent Russell Crowe biblical epic Noah. Last month she began filming Regression, a thriller about repressed memories of childhood abuse linked to a Satanist cult and co-starring Ethan Hawke.
According to some reports, a bodyguard was present at the graduation; Watson was apparently spooked by an obsessed fan trying to gatecrash the set of Noah last year. Watson is linked to a number of other projects in addition to Regression, though it is unknown if she intends to make acting her full-time career post-graduation or if she will pursue other goals.
