College moving tips

There is much more to moving into your new college dormitory than just what gets packed into your boxes.  Emotions will be running high in your family and it is all too easy to end up becoming lost in chaos, but the good news is that there are a few helpful tips to make the day of your college move less stressful than might otherwise be the case.

One thing you need to do is to check out your space before the move.  Get the university to provide you with the specifics of your dorm room – is it a new or old construction, and do you have air conditioning?  You also need to know what furnishings are included, as well as the actual size of the room.

If you are making a move into an actual apartment or house then you need to check if any of the previous tenants have caused any damage to the place and report it to your landlord before you move in.  You do not want end up getting charged because someone else has behaved in a reckless manner.

Being resourceful is a good idea.  Packing materials can be quite costly, so the best advice is not to pay for them at all and make use of plastic grocery bags and old newspapers.  Breakable belongings can be wrapped in the jeans, sweatshirts and towels that you want to take with you to college anyway, while fragile items can be protected by double duty packing, which likewise saves on space.
