When you are for the most part fully packed up it is a good idea to clean your empty residence, particularly in cases where a security deposit may be on the line. It can be a rather tedious task to clean up your old home when all you want to do is move to your new one, but it can make all the difference when it comes to getting a refund on your deposit.
A checklist of all the items that you might need to clean prior to your relocation should be made, as this makes certain that you are not likely to miss or forget anything and to ensure that you will receive all of your deposit back. The best place to begin, I think, is probably with the walls. You should make sure that you have gotten rid of all the nails where you might have had pictures hanging. Soap and water can be used in some cases to remove marks or scratches on the wall, although it may be necessary to slap on a quick coat of paint in order to get them looking new again. You should mop and sweep the floors as well, and just generally try to make sure that the apartment is left as clean as possible. Be certain to take any rubbish with you when you move out.
Kitchen appliances and countertops should be cleaned, and vacuum the carpets or, if necessary, have them professionally cleaned.
